Saturday, August 30th was one of the scariest days of my life and the luckiest day of Avery's life.
It started out as a just a boring Saturday at home.
Sean was doing some over time work on his computer. I was cleaning. Eli was playing with his cars.
The girls were playing together in their room.
Around noon Lexi came running into my room shouting, "AVERY FELL OUT THE WINDOW!!!"
Those were some of the most terrifying words I've ever heard!
Sean and I immediately started running. He ran outside and I ran to the girls room.
Out the girls bedroom window I found Avery laying on the grass
with her body curled around the window well.
She was screaming. And I was panicking.
(In actuality she was a lot closer to the rim of the window well. Her body was against it.)

Here's the fall she took.
We are on the second floor
but it's not a true second story since the grass comes half way up the first floor.
When Sean got to her he wasn't sure what to do.
First he examined her body before moving her.
She was able to move and he didn't see any bones sticking out
so he picked her up and brought her upstairs.
Once she was inside and in my arms she stopped crying.
But we knew we needed to get her checked out.
Sean ran downstairs and asked our neighbors to watch Lexi and Eli while we went to the E.R.
Lexi was the only witness.
She told me that Avery was standing on the side of her bed leaning over and playing with her little princesses, making them do hop scotch.
My guess is that she used the screen to balance herself and then fell out the window.
(The windows were all open
because it had finally cooled down enough that we didn't need to use the A.C.)

Sean held Avery in his arms as I drove to the hospital which is luckily only half a block away.
She was instantly rushed back and a swarm of people were surrounding her.
They were checking to abdomen for any pain (internal bleeding is my guess).
And checking her spine.
They even cut off her shirt because they were scared to move her.
I couldn't handle it, I starting bawling and Sean got teary eyed.
It was so hard to see our baby so helpless and in pain and not know what is wrong with her.
Next they needed to do x-rays. Sean stayed in the room and helped.
I had to go out in the hall because I'm pregnant.
I was a wreck. I was just standing outside her room crying uncontrollably.
They knew instantly that she had broken her right leg and arm.
They must have taken the impact of her fall and hit the window well.
THANK HEAVENS IT WAS JUST HER ARM AND LEG!!!
Sean and I know it could have easily been so much worse.
Thinking about the possible outcomes still makes me cry and fills me with overwhelming gratitude.
Poor Avery had to lay in that E.R. bed for four hours before she got anything put on her arm or leg.
Sean and I were pretty upset with the doctor. She just couldn't decide what to do with Avery.
She wanted to move Avery to another hospital with a pediatric orthopedic specialist
but she wasn't sure who and where at.
She was horrible at communicating with us.
Then did another set of x-rays to check her wrist and then finally put a boot and split on Avery.
And then finally let her eat.
She was starving. We all were. The accident happened right before lunch time.
She was starving. We all were. The accident happened right before lunch time.
Our sweet nurse brought us meals from the cafeteria.
Avery was a lot happier when she got food in her tummy.
Finally after five hours we got to go home.
We just had to make an appointment with a specialist for a follow up and to get her cast on.
Avery was AMAZING through it all. She hardly ever cried or complained.
She's one tough girl.
That night one of our friends brought Avery flowers.
Sunday, the next day, Avery and I stayed home from church and just rested.
Since Avery was still wearing a hospital gown (they let her keep it since they cut off her shirt),
I decided to get her dressed in some real clothes.
I quickly realized that we didn't have a lot of clothes that could wear.
(Monday, I went shopping and bought a bunch of tank tops and some loose fitting shorts.
All on clearance.)
After church we got a ton of visitors, lots of food and presents for Avery.
She was pretty excited about it.
Monday, she started walking. I was scared for her to do that but she doesn't like being told no.
And we couldn't seem to keep her sitting still.
Monday and Tuesday we receive a lot more visitors and Avery got many more gifts.
That girl is sure loved!
Avery and our family have felt so much love and been the recipients of so much service.
We've had people watch Lexi and Eli several times through all of this.
People have brought us dinners and desserts.
Avery has received several cards, coloring books, candy, stickers,
stuffed animals, a balloon and other some toys.
One of our friends even brought their new puppies over for us to play with.
And we've had lots of visitors which has made Avery excited every time the door bell rings.
Sean and I have received lots of phone calls and texts.
People have just cried with me.
I've really been struggling through all this so I've really appreciated it.
So Scary! Esp. since she didn't even have anything really by the window and still fell out! So glad she's okay. My heart skipped a beat when I saw on facebook she fell out your window. So scary! Glad she is okay!
