Avery's Journal

January 2015
While telling me about her day at preschool, Avery explained that she didn't get the stickers that she wanted to decorate her paper. She said, "Someone else got Aurora and I tried not to panic."
...
In the car on the way to school, Avery told me that Jesus wants everyone to be a newborn first.
...
Today Avery asked me if everyone's blood is red and if it's important.
Then she told me that Jesus gave blood for everyone.
...
Sean was tucking Avery in bed and asked if she wanted her own room when we buy a house,
or if she wanted to share a room with Ruby.
But then Sean said that she couldn't share a room with Ruby because she's not nice to her.
So then Sean asked Avery if she wanted to share a room with Eli.
She told Sean that she can't share a room with him because she mean to him too.
...
A randomly told me that she's glad that Jesus gave her her life and her family.
...
Avery loves the song, Shake it Off by Taylor Swift.
In the song, there is a line that says "the liars and the dirty, dirty cheats of the world."
Avery doesn't know what this means and can't even really repeat it.
But the in the car one day she asked me if she was a "dirty cheats."
...
While driving in the car, Avery notices white streaks in the sky.
She asked me if they were ghost tracks.

September 2014
Every since her accident, Avery has been playing "doctor" a lot. She is always the "surgery doctor" and her patients are always getting surgery. They always have to go to the "sleepy doctor" first, the anesthesiologist. In fact, Avery told me that she wants to be a surgeon when she grows up.
...
At preschool, Avery's teacher told her that grandparents could go on their field trips. Avery took it as grandparents were supposed to go on field trips and got really upset when I told her that her grandparents couldn't come.

November 18,2013
Today Avery told me, "Mom, Mickey wear red shorts. He needs a shirt.
He needs a shirt to cover up his boobies and belly.
And Donald and Daisy need pants."

October 30, 2013
Tonight was the ward Primary Halloween Party.
The girls had a good time.
As we were driving away.
Avery waved to the church and said, "Goodbye Church Halloween Party!"
...
Tonight we had a meeting with the stake president.
As we were leaving his office Avery yelled, "Goodbye grown ups!"
...
Yesterday, Avery told me that Eli was the cutest baby in the universe.
And tonight she told me that I was the best mom in the universe.

October 29, 2013
Avery started sucking on her lower lip earlier this year.
She does it all the time now, even in her sleep.
Her lower lip is always swollen.
Today, I gave her a binkie to suck on instead of her lip while she watched a movie.
It worked.
So I think I'll push the binkie for a little while to weenie her off the lip sucking.
...
Today Avery asked me if she could eat some "mashed potato chips."

October 24, 2013
Today while we were out shopping at the City Creek Mall in Salt Lake,
a lady pointed to Avery and asked me if she was my daughter and what her name was.
Then she told me that Avery was so gorgeous and that she should be in commercials.
And then the lady told me that Avery was so beautiful that she made her want to have kids.

October 22, 2013
While on the way to preschool, Avery asked me if we were getting a baby soon.
I told her no. Then she told me that we need to buy some tiny sleeping bags
for our babies so that they will have a place to sleep.

August 15, 2013
Me: We're going to Sam's Club.
Avery: Is Santa gonna be there?
Me: No.
Avery: Is he swimming?

July 29, 2013
Things are never dull with a three year old in the house!!!
Avery locked me out this morning while I went out to take out the trash. I of course didn't have any keys or phone on me. Eli was awake and crawling around, so I was worried about his safety and Lexi was in bed sound a sleep still.
I stood outside the door and begged Avery to unlock the door. She just told me I don't know how. She doesn't. So I asked to her go get Lexi. To which Avery replied, "I need to get dressed." And then she left the front door.
I just rang the doorbell and knocked for minutes. So finally, I went and threw rocks at Lexi's bedroom window until she woke up. And finally she came and unlocked the door. I was so happy to see my kids!Avery has locked me out on the deck before. I've got to watch this girl like a hawk!

July 27, 2013
I bought the girls a necklace today from Target on clearance.
I had a clasp.
I let Avery wear it first since she picked it out.
When we got, Avery pulled it off her neck and broke it.
I fixed it and put it on Lexi.
Later Avery pulled it off Lexi's neck and broke it again.
I was frustrated and got mad and yell at Avery.
She bawled and screamed with tears rolling down her face.
This all happened while we were trying to clean up and get the girls in bed.
I asked Avery to help clean several times and she just told me over and over,
"I can't. My heart is broken!"

July 19, 2013
Today, Eli had his 9 month old check-up.
While we were in the waiting room Avery would run to the door to the exam rooms and yell,
"Haniotis, Haniotis!" Hers doctor's name is Dr. Valerie Rahaniotis.

July 9, 2013
I'm not sure if this makes me a bad mom or a good mom,
but today I used Nair on Avery's back and uni-brow.
I just told her it was special pink lotion that made her skin smooth.
I also bribed her with an Oreo.
She only agreed to do it after I agreed to giving her two.

July 2, 2013
This morning after nursing Eli, I went into the kitchen briefly.
On the way back to my bedroom, I noticed that Avery was asleep on the couch.
She had her giraffe blanket and sheep pillow with her.
I scooped her up and put her back in her own bed.
...
Today Avery decided to go into my room and close the door.
After a few minutes, I got suspicious.
So I went to check on her.
Avery had found a pack of gum on my night stand.
When I found her she had eaten the entire pack, minus one piece of gum.

July 1, 2013
Sean woke up today, showered and dressed and started working (it was a work from home day).
When Avery woke up she came and said good morning to him and then left.
After a while Sean went into the living room
and found Avery had helped herself to an apple and was eating it.
She's very independent.

June 30, 2013
Today I notice that a small section of Avery's hair near her forehead is suddenly shorter.
It seems to me that someone has cut a chunk of her hair.
But neither Sean nor I know when or where is happened.
My guess is Avery went into my make up drawer, like she always does,
and found my cuticle scissors and cut her hair.

June 23, 2013
I told Avery to go pick out a book to read before bed.
She instantly replied, "Book of Mormon stories that my teacher tells to me."
I then handed her our children's illustrated Book of Mormon.
She opened it and began reading to Eli.
"Nephi build a boat."

June 21, 2013
Tonight Avery was tired and being just plain ornery.
She was running around destroying everything in sight.
So I sent her to time out in her room around 6:30.
Sean went to get her out around 6:45 and she had fallen asleep for the night.
That was exactly what she needed.

June 19, 2013
Avery recently started going into the pantry and getting out food for Eli.
She loves to grab his Little Puffs and dumping hundreds of them on Eli's tray.
Today I got so frustrated with her for doing it again.
I told her again, "You don't feed him! You're not his mother!"
She screamed back at me in tears, "I is his mother!"

May 16, 3013
Avery lay lifeless on the couch this morning. Exhausted from feeling sick for days.
She didn't say a word all morning until Eli woke up and I brought him in the living room.
As soon as she saw him she excitedly and cheerfully started talking.
She said, "Eli's my favorite. Eli's not Austin. He's Eli.
Austin's little. Eli's big. I'm little like Austin and Eli's big."

May 14, 2013
While sitting on her dad's lap, Avery started throwing up.
Sean is such a great dad because he just held her and
let her finish throwing up on him before he did anything.
While I bathed Avery, Sean hand rinsed all of her throw up clothes.

May 13, 2013
Sean: Avery, whose my cute little girl?
Avery: I don't know. Eli's not a girl.

May 9, 2013
This morning Avery said to her dad to say, "I love you Sean."
...
I asked Avery, "What do you want our new house to be like?" And she replied, "A big one."

May 8, 2013
Avery stated today as she does most days, "Eli's my favorite. Eli is my best friend."

April 2013
Avery can't pronounce the words, "Polka Dot." Instead she says, "Poka Not."
Avery also can't say, "Rice Crispies." She calls the cereal, "Rice Pippies."
Avery can't say the word, "back yard." Instead she says, "Back Ard."
...
Avery talks about her new big house all the time,
probably because Sean and I are always taking about buying a house.
Avery is always reminding me that she wants a big "back ard" with a swing.

March 27, 2013
I want to make sure I record some of Avery's recent shenanigans.
...
Avery loves watching me put on my make up and is always asking for me to put some on her. She often takes my blush brush and rubs it all over her face. The other day Avery was watching me get ready and saw me put in my contacts. She then stuck her finger in the contact solution in my contact case and then stuck her finger on her eye. Today, I found Avery in the bathroom sitting on the floor hunched over looking at something. I quickly realized that it was my contact case. One side was opened and empty. Next to the case I saw my dried up and ripped up contact.
...
Avery has been potty trained for about two weeks now. When she's at home she uses the "frog potty." It's a portable little potty chair that sit on the ground. There is a removable bowl where Avery's "waste" goes. After she uses her potty I rinse and dump her "waste" into the toilet and flush it. One morning last week I woke up to the sound of the running water of bathroom sink (a frequent sound in our house). I went to the bathroom and found Avery. She had gone potty and taken the bowl from the frog potty to the bathroom sink and filled it up with water and then tried to carry the water-pee mixture to the toilet. It was too heavy so it was spilled all over the bathroom floor. That was a surprising way to start my day- my bathroom floor being flooded with water and pee.
...
This past Sunday morning was not Avery best. She woke up before me and went out to the living room and laid on the couch (which is what she does most mornings). The night before I had folded several loads of laundry and left them on the couch. Avery saw them on "her" couch (she is very territorial of the couch for some reason) and she just threw it all on the floor so she could lay down. I was upset what I woke up, that's for sure. That morning we were attending at 9 am ward so we had to hurry and get ready. I had picked out some matching dresses for the girls to wear. Avery didn't want to wear that dress though. So Sean asked her what she wanted to wear. Four different times what she wanted to wear, then he would get it and try to put it on Avery and then she'd shriek, "Not that one!"
...
About a week ago, I pulled out the bins with the girls spring/ summer clothes. In it was Avery beloved Ariel swimsuit that she wore last summer. She had been asking for it and since she got it back she has worn it around the house EVERY day.
...
Avery is VERY, VERY, VERY opinionated about her clothing.
She HATES, HATES, HATES pants! She refuses to wear them. Dressing her in the winter has been a struggle. She only wants to wear dresses and she won't wear any time of leggings. She kicks and streams and fights me any time I try to dress her in something that she doesn't want to wear.
...
Yesterday morning Avery told me that she wanted Halle to be with her. She loves her cousin Halle and is always more than willing to go play with her.
...
Today Avery was throwing a tantrum and while asking me to help her. I told her that I wouldn't help her because she wasn't being nice to me. So she screamed at me, "I being nice to you!" Then I told her again that she wasn't so I still wouldn't help me. So she screamed at me, "I mad at you!"
...
Yesterday Avery was having some sort of "queso fresco" for a snack. It was big crubs of soft white cheese. Meanwhile, Eli was playing happily in his jumper. A few minutes later I realized that Avery was feeding Eli the cheese. I told her that she couldn't feed him. That is wasn't safe for Eli. But to be honest, Eli didn't look like upset. He seemed content eating that cheese.
...
Frequently when we get into the van Avery will say, "Mommy sits with Daddy. Avery sits with Eli. And Lexi sit in the back with nobody." She loves to pester her sister.
...
Sean and I often refer to Avery as our free spirited child. She is little miss independent. She just does what she wants and doesn't think she even needs to ask for permission. And often when I try to get Avery to do something that she doesn't want to, she'll just look at me and calmly say, "I don't want to. Never mind."Then she walks away.
...
Today Avery told me, "I want more babies. I want another Buddy." She also told me that Buddy wants more sisters.

March 5, 2013
Tonight when Avery went to bed she said to Sean, "Good night Cuddle Bear."
She calls him "Cuddle Bear" more than anything else.

February 28, 2013
While holding Eli, Avery exclaimed, "He loves me!"
Avery referred to Eli today as a tiny baby, which is funny because he nearly weighs as much as her.
Avery said to her dad, “Come on cuddle bear.”

February 27, 2013
This morning Avery asked to hold Eli. After I put him on her lap she told me, "This baby is too heavy. Eli is too heavy." (He's weighs just a few pounds less than her.)

February 26, 2013
I took Avery’s beloved Sheep Pillow and Giraffe Blankie to wash today.
Avery threw the biggest tantrum. She begged and begged me to give them back and she stood in the laundry room just crying next to the washing machine. When they were done drying I gave them back to Avery and she held them and said, “I missed you!”

February 16, 2013
Today, Eli and I flew back home after a 4 day trip to California.
When I went to pick up the girls from Michelle’s house Avery started bawling when she saw me.
She kept saying, “My Mommy! My Mommy!”
But she ran for Eli and just hugged him for a really long time.

January 20, 2013
Today in the chapel at church I handed Eli to Sean and Eli's shirt came up a little bit. Avery repeatedly shouted, "Don't be naked! Don't be naked!" A little girl two pews in front of us kept repeating Avery and stared laughing. Then we all started laughing.

January 16, 2013
I just measured the kids' waists. Avery's is 16 1/2 inches around and Lexi's and Eli's are both 19 inches!

January 15, 2013
I set out Avery’s warm feetie pajama’s to wear to bed. Avery grabbed them and hid them while screaming, “I take these away!” She wanted to wear a night gown.

I asked Avery what she wanted for breakfast and she told me, “Cucumber.”

Today Eli was crying and Avery said to him,
"Stop whining. What's the matter?... No Eli, don't cry."

December 2012
We don't want to potty train Avery yet but she wants to use the potty.
She will ask to go potty several times a day now so Avery has started wearing Pull Ups.
She pees and poops in them like a diapers but doesn't use the toilet sometimes too.

November 2012
Avery has been wearing her "Aurora dress" all month long, pretty much all day, everyday.
She got a pink dress up dress from my parents for her birthday and I told her that it was her "Aurora dress" and lately Aurora has been Avery's favorite princess.

November 29, 2012
I went to get Avery out of her room after her nap and she told me, "I want to get married."
She's now obsessed with getting married just like Lexi.
Whenever the girls are coloring Avery will ask us to draw a picture of her getting married.

November 2012
Avery now says, "Darn it!"

November 19, 2012
Avery peeped in the toilet for the first time.
She asked to use the potty and did!
We all cheered and then she got gummy bears.
And then we went to Costco to buy Pull Ups.

October 2012
Avery wears Huggies diapers. They come with either Mickey Mouse or Mickey and Minnie on them.
Avery has learned who these characters are and has decided that "Minnie Bow" is her favorite.
Avery only wants to wear the diapers with "Minnie Bow."
And Avery gets upset if you try to correct her and say "Minnie Mouse."

 October 26, 2012
Lexi was hiding behind the couch and I asked her to come out.
Then Avery immediately chimed in, "Come out Lexi. One. Two. Three. Come out!"

October 10, 2012

I listed a bunch of options for her to choose from.
When I was done she replied, "I want vegetables."
I should note that this girl LOVES broccoli and cauliflower.

 October 2012
Avery has discovered that she can turn on and off the lights.
We started having issues with her turning on the lights in her room when
she was supposed to be napping or going to sleep and turning on the lights
early in the morning and waking up Lexi.
So we started putting packaging tape on the light switch in her room.
It work for about a week and then she learned to take it off.
She also gets really upset when I turn off any lights during the day
because she thinks that they all always need to be on.

October 9, 2012
I asked Avery to clean up and she told me, "I no clean up. I busy."
Someone has been listening to her big sister.
...
Avery came up to me this afternoon and said, "I poo poo." So I went to change her diaper and discovered that she had not yet pooped. So I told her, "No poo poo. Just pee pee." And she said, "It's coming."
Hmmm. Maybe it's time to potty train her.  But when I asked her if she wanted to go sit on the potty she got really upset and said, "No potty."

Today Avery was playing with the Barbies all by herself.
She grabbed a Ken doll and her Cinderella Barbie and made them kiss.

September 5,2012

She pointed to the hospital bed and said, "Who's this?"

 September 4, 2012
Today was Lexi's first day of preschool.

On the way home from dropping Avery off she kept saying, "My turn?"
She wanted to go to preschool so bad.

September 3, 2012
When we got home tonight, I was holding Avery in front of our front door.

Today while the girls were finishing up dinner, Sean and I were in the kitchen kissing and hugging.
I guess Avery was concerned that I might be hurting her dad because she said, "Mommy, Daddy owie."

August 2012
Now when Avery says hello to Eli and kisses my belly she'll say, "He kicked me."
(She learned that from Lexi)
...
Avery has started pointing to nearly everything and asking, "What's that?"
And she's really good at repeating nearly everything we say.
...
When Avery sees Sean or sometimes just randomly, she'll say, "Daddy owie."
And sometimes she add, "shoulder."

July 31, 2012
A few days ago we were at our friends' Buck and Audrey's house.
I picked up their one year old daughter Sydney and held her.
As soon as Avery saw me she got upset.
I sat down on the couch with Sydney and Avery was instantly on my lap
trying to get in between me and Sydney. She kept saying, no baby and my mommy.
Later when she just saw me walking towards Sydney she got upset.
...
Tonight I was holding Lexi in my lap like a little newborn baby
and saying, "Mommy's baby Lexi."
Avery ran over and started saying, no baby Lexi while trying to push Lexi off my lap.

July 29, 2012
Today, when Sean picked Avery up from nursery he was told that she likes to color more than any of the other children and that she spends the most time coloring.

After Avery had been in her room for a while tonight for bed, Sean walked by her door and heard her say, "No jammies." And he opened the door and found a completely naked Avery.

 July 25, 2012
Avery came up to me and rubbed my stomach and said, "Hi Eli." And then she kissed it.
Afterwards, she said, "He kicked me."

July 5, 2012
Avery has a bad habit of waking up early (between 6:30 and 7)
and watching a movie while Lexi sleeps
and while I lay in bed or get ready.
Today after she woke up we just sat in the living room together
then I left to go to the bathroom and Avery told me,
"I want new new (movie) now."
Then she followed me into the bathroom and said,
"Watch new new me."

 July 3, 2012

 from the Motherhood Maternity store.

and kissed them and said, "Baby why (Eli)."

I took it from her.
She instantly reached out with both of her arms and said, "Give back me."

While she was watching it, Sean came up to her and tried to kiss her.

(Leave me alone, Daddy.)

 June 28, 2012
Tonight I told the girls that we were going to the church for an Enrichment Activity.
Avery hear the word, church, and ran and got her scripture bag.
Avery pulled her Book of Mormon out of her scripture bag.
She opened it and looked at the pictures in the front.
Then she kept repeating, "Nephi."

June 26, 2012
Today we were at our friends' house.
The girls were melting down so it was time to go.
I got on my shoes and headed for the door.
I told the girls I was leaving.
Lexi started screaming and shouted, "No we have to take our little Avery."
Then Avery started screaming and came running.

June 22, 2012
Today when Avery woke up from her nap, Sean went into her room to get her.
He found her completely naked still half asleep in Lexi's bed.
And she had peeped everywhere.
(This is actually the second time she's peeped in Lexi's bed.
The other time she did it she was naked and running away from Sean.
Jumped on Lexi's bed and looked at Sean while peeing all over the bed.)

 June 21, 2012
My friend Aubrey was over today with her 15 month old daughter Sydney,
Avery point to Sydney and said, baby Eli.
I think she might be a bit confused.

While swimming at our complex pool, Avery told me, "I want Halle."

June 11, 2012
Today was Lexi's first day of swim lessons.
Avery was so upset that I didn't bring her swimsuit and that she wasn't getting into the pool.

She kept asking for her Ariel swimsuit.
And kept saying,my turn and Avery pool.

June 3, 2012
Sacrament meeting went over by 10 minutes today and Avery couldn't handle it.
She saw her shoes in my purse and asked me to put them on.
Then she kept saying nursery.
I told her we had to sing and pray first.
So Avery quickly said a pray and then said nursery again.

May 2012
Whenever Avery wants something she says, "I nee-need ..."
...
When we moved into our new apartment in West Jordan there were pigeons living on our deck.
They even had a nest with two babies.
We got the nest and babies taken away and the mess cleaned up but they kept coming back.
Every time I saw the pigeons, I would say, "Go away birds."
Now whenever Avery sees a bird, she says, "Go away bur."

May 30, 2012
While playing in the shallow area of the pool Avery tripped and swallowed a little water. She reached her arms out for me and said, “I’m upset.”
May 2012
During the week of Memorial Day Avery went poop in the potty three times!
She’s never don’t that before.
She just told us poo poo or said potty and we just put her on and she did her business.
May 10, 2012
We tried to put the girls to bed at the same time tonight because it was late.
Even though we normally don’t because they just play together.
Avery kept getting into bed with Lexi.
So eventually we took Lexi out so Avery could fall asleep.
When we finally went to put Lexi to bed we found Avery asleep
with all her bedding and stuffed animals in Lexi’s bed. I guess she missed her sister.
April 14, 2012
Today I smelt Avery and knew exactly what she did.
I was planning on changing her diaper in just a minute as soon as I finished what I was doing.
BIG MISTAKE!
By the time I got to her she had smeared poop on her arms and on her hands
and even a little on her face!
She was saying "draw."
Luckily, I got her before she got poop on anything else.
(Little did I know at that time that Avery would do this several more times in the future.)
April 10, 2012
Tonight immediately after we put the girls to bed Avery started crying.
She usually doesn't do that.
After a few minutes I went in their room and check on her she seemed fine as far as I could tell.
But she kept crying.
I thought if we waited it out she'd fall asleep.
Finally after about half an hour Sean went in and held her.
She was so upset.
So he brought her out into the living room.
And we bought discovered that she was covered in blood from head to toe.
It was in her hair and all over her bedding and it just kept coming.
(Since then she has had several nose bleeds but none as bad as this one was.)

Winter 2012
Sean and Lexi love to nibble each others noses.
Sean started nibbling Avery's nose.
She wasn't a fan.
So Sean said, "No nose bite."
Avery started saying, "No nose bite" all the time.
It was the first three word sentence she ever said.

October 2011

Here are Avery's 18 month stats:

20 lbs 4 oz (5%)

30 2/4 inches (25%)

...

Last Sunday Lexi held Avery's hand and walked her down the hall to nursery.

They were wearing matching pink dresses,

and look adorable.

The just walked into nursery together and never looked back.

She has been loving it.

And Lexi loves having her in there with her.

...

We gave Avery her first Oreo and she loved it.

She kept asking for more.

Fall 2011

I get asked if my girls are twins like twice a week, no joke.

Seriously, twins?! They aren't even the same size!
...
Both the girls got croup for the first time.
They didn't get it that bad but we still had to go to the doctor's several times.
To help the girls breath I would take them out in the cold air.
In fact, one night I wrapped up Avery and took her out on our deck at 1 am.
...

Whenever Avery wants to go anywhere she grabs her "do's" and says "bye?"

And then will bring everyone else their shoes too.
...
Avery loves coloring and loves stickers.
...
Every night when we read scriptures every is really great about grabbing scriptures for everyone and sitting down and "reading" with us.
...
Avery loves books. She especially loves a Beauty and the Beast book we recently bought at the thrift store. She will look at it for 10 minutes straight turning the pages and saying "Belle" and "East" (Beast).
...

Avery loves, loves, loves Caillou! She loves Dora too.

This girl just really loves TV, a little too much if you ask me.

Avery loves to put chap stick on, brush her teeth, comb her hair and pick out her own jewelry to wear. She is so girly and so independent. Anything Lexi can do she can to.

...

Avery loves, loves, loves the Disney princesses! She says "Rora" for Aurora. "Rella" for Cinderella and "Belle."
...
Avery recently learned out to say no. Which she now says all the time. But she is just so darn cute when she says it. She just makes me smile and want to kiss her.
...
Avery loves throwing things. She gets in trouble for it pretty much every day now.
...
Avery is a great helper. When we say it's time to clean up she happily helps to her toys away in their bins.
...
I swear Avery is growing because she is always signing and saying eat.

September 2011
We went to the state fair.
My girls had never been before.
Avery especially loved the petting zoo.
This girl LOVES all animals!
Avery went up to each animal and made their sounds and would wave and say, "hi."
She was very friendly.
...
Avery had her first dental appointment.
Avery had 14 teeth at her check-up.
She wanted nothing to do with anyone.
She was a pill, just like I knew she would be.

August 2011
The other day Avery woke up a little before 7 and I ignored her and she fell back asleep until 8:20.
When I went to go get Avery out of her crib I found her with one arm out of her sleeve and instead sticking out the collar of her shirt.
...
Avery is our tiny dancer. The second she hears any music she begins dancing.
...
Avery is learning her body parts. Her favorite is nose.
She is always touching our noses and says nose.
The other touch she even touch one of my friends noses, even though she didn't know her!
...
Whenever anyone is going outside, or Avery thinks they are,
she will run around looking for her shoes while says, deet. For feet.
...
Every night when Sean gets home Avery gets so excited.
She looks out the dinning room window and waves and says hi as fast as she can.
...
Avery loves to run up and hug Lexi so hard that they both fall over.
Avery is actually a really tough little girl.
...
Avery loves books.
She will grab books all day long and bring them over to me and force her way into my lap.
...
Avery doesn't listen.
The other day I told her to sit down when she was standing on her little car that she rides on.
She didn't listen.
The next thing I knew she had fell over and had a bloody nose.
The fall didn't make her cry as much as the blood did.
She was bleeding like CRAZY. Seriously, she and I were really covered in blood!
...
Avery's favorite TV show is Caillou.
If you ask her if she wants to watch Caillou she says yah and starts dancing.
She loves to dance to the theme song.
I know Caillou is a little old for her but she watches because Lexi does.
And now I think she loves it more than Lexi.
...
I've started sending Avery to time out.
Mostly for pulling Lexi's hair.
When she does it we say, "Naughty. Time out in crib."
And she instantly begins screaming like it's the end of the world!
...
Avery loves brushing her teeth. Whenever Sean or I are brushing our teeth
or are just in the bathroom, Avery will come up to us and say "tee" for teeth.

July 2011
Avery is 15 months old.
Her stats at her check up were: 19 1/2 lbs (5%) and 29 1/2 inches (20%).
...
Avery is full of personality and she requires a lot of attention
because she loves to do things she's not supposed to.
Avery's two new favorite toys are the computer and the dishwasher.
Avery will push a chair over to the desk and get up on it and play with the keyboard.
If we are at the computer and get up for one second Avery is instantly on our chair
and playing with the computer. She is fast.
...
Avery now say "ya." So now when we asked her if she wants something she'll say, "ya."
She doesn't know how to say "no" which is really nice.
...
One of Avery's new favorite things to do is pull Lexi's hair.
...
Whenever we sit down at the table Avery automatically folds her arms to pray. And when I get up to go get something for the kitchen and sit back down Avery folds her arms again. She is always reminding us to pray.
...
Avery now using forks and spoons.

June 2011
Miss Avery turned 14 months old on the 28th.
She has changed so much since her birthday.
Avery is no longer a little baby, she's a feisty, adventurous toddler.
Avery uses sign language to say: more, please, milk, eat, and all done.
And Avery can say:
mama, dada, hi, nana (banana), chee (Cheese), deedee (baby or blankie), up and da (dog).
 ...
Avery is a lot more adventurous than her big sister.
Just yesterday she figured out how to climb up on one of our dinning room chairs.
She can now stand up in shopping carts,
it doesn't seem to matter how tight I tighten the harness, she still always manages to get free.
...
Avery is still the biggest Momma's girl you have ever seen.
If someone is moving towards her or acting like they are going to pick her up she screams
and runs to me or wraps her arms around me if I'm holding her.
...
Avery loves music and dancing.
If you say, "Avery dance." She starts shaking her hips.
She dances in Sacrament meeting at church to the hymns.
She also waves her arms and pretends to conduct the music at church.
...
Avery's favorite things are babies, animals and me.
She's such a fantastic independent player, just like Lexi.
...
Avery will eat anything she can get her hands on.
Just this morning I found her sitting on the floor chewing on a day old corn dog she found.
...
Avery gets really excited when Sean comes home.
She runs to the door and puts her arms up in the air for him to pick her up.
...
Avery goes to bed earlier and wakes up earlier than Lexi.
In the mornings, when Avery is ready for Lexi to wake up and go play in their room she'll knock on their bedroom door. And the second I open the door when Lexi is awake, Avery runs in saying, "Hi."
...
Avery is obsessed with phones. Whenever she gets her hands on one she runs aways with it.
And whenever Avery sees us talking on the phone she wants to talk too. She just says hi over and over and over. It's adorable.
...
Whenever Avery sees dogs she says "da" and starts panting like crazy.
...
Avery is so friendly. Whenever we go to the store or on walks she waves and says hi to everyone.
...
I am teaching Avery her body parts. Right now we are working on: feet, belly, nose and hair.
She does a pretty good job recognizing them.
...
When I get out my camera, Avery will often stand up against the wall, look at the camera and say "chee."
 I hope that never changes.
...
Avery is one tough little girl. Sadly she is used to being pushed over and knocked down.

May 2011
We bought Avery a little floaty boat thing to sit in while we're swimming.
She HATES it. She just wants to be held.
Avery isn't too excited about the pool. She would just rather sit outside and eat on my lap.
...
Avery loves the freedom that walking gives her.
...
I can't explain how much I love my Avery.
She's so fun, feisty, curious, adventurous and sweet.
And HELLO, she's ADORABLE!!!
...
Avery recognizes bananas and calls them nanas.
She gets really excited about nanas, not because she likes eating them
but because she can says nana.
...
Avery also tries to say cheese. Well she says, chee.
...
She now walks and even tries to run.
...
Avery thankfully no longer nurses (I was so ready to be done).
Instead of nursing before going to sleep I now read to her and she LOVES books!
AVERY NOW SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! HALLELUJAH!!!
Avery does sleep through the night but she is a really early riser, like 5:30 am ish.
Which is really hard for me. I'm not a morning person, AT ALL!
...
Avery now has all four of her 1 year old molars. She only has 4 regular teeth left (she has 8 regular teeth now) and then she will be all done with teething... for now.
...
Avery has a favorite baby doll (she loves baby dolls) and a "lovie" she loves to chew on and sleep with.
...
Avery signs more, all done and milk.
...
When Avery wants to kiss you or it's time to go to sleep she will walk up to you and say, Muah.
...
Avery loves wearing necklaces, scarves and anything else she can wrap around her shoulders.
...
Both of the girls got strep throat for the first time.
 ...
I can do real big girl pigtails with Avery's hair!!!

May 26, 2011
Avery NEVER crawls anymore! She's a little walker.
She first started really walking a lot the day after her birthday
and is just getting better each day. In fact, she even ran way from Sean yesterday!
And not only does she walk and run, she climbs! And loves it.
Avery is a little hand full. But we sure love her!

May 5, 2011
Lexi wanted Avery to model her new swimsuit and Avery was a good sport.

Easter 2011
After we headed to the temple. We did our family Easter egg hunt there.
The girls had a lot of fun.
Avery really got excited about crawling around in the grass and picking up eggs.

April 28, 2011
On the morning of her birthday, Avery mostly played with her Grandpa
while my mom and Lexi made the cupcakes and I finished up party decorations.
Then Avery napped and I actually had to wake her up to go to her party.
We had the party at my friend Tiffany's house.
It was a small gathering, just some of my friends and their kids.
Really it was an excuse for me to just hang out with my peeps.
I did make some decorations though.
I hung up pictures of Avery, sewed a banner, painted Avery's name
and made some tissue paper balls.
...
That night we went out to Sadie's, one of our favorite New Mexican restaurants.
I made sure that the servers sung to Avery for her birthday.
They even brought her dessert.
...
Avery had her one year check-up and she's little.
18 Lbs 2 Oz, 28 inches.
10% for weight and height.
Small but perfectly proportioned.

April 14, 2011
We rearranged our bedrooms today.
Before Avery was in the bigger bedroom with us.
Now Sean and I are in the smaller bedroom.
And the girls are in the bigger room, which is great because
all of their toys are in there with them!
The girls have done AMAZING as roommates.
It makes me wonder why I wanted so long.
Avery still usually wakes up once to nurse but Lexi has never been woken up by Avery's cries.
And they LOVE being in there together.
It was meant to be!

April 5, 2011
Avery took her first steps today!!!
She also got her first blooding nose today.
The two were not related.
And three out of the last four nights Avery has sleep through the night!
HIP HIP HURRAY!!! FINALLY!!!
March 28, 2011
One more month until Avery's first birthday!
I can't believe my baby is already 11 months old!
She just keeps getting more fun and more adorable.
She's got us wrapped around her little pudgy fingers.
Avery makes the cutest faces.
And I melt every time I look into her big green eyes.
She loves exploring everything around her.
I love watching her discover and learn new things.
There is nothing better than hearing her saying, "mama" and "dada."
...
Here are some things I want to remember about Avery:
She mostly just says, "Mum."
She signs "more" and "all done" when she's eating.
She LOVES music and singing. And will instantly dance or sway when she hears either.
Lexi can always make her laugh.
She now walks along the side of things.
Avery can crawl faster than any other baby. She's so quick.
She now waves when we say, "hi" or "Bye, bye."
As soon as Avery hears the water running in the tub she books it for th bathroom.
This baby LOVES the bath! She often splashes so much that Lexi wants out of the tub.
Avery LOVES babies. And squeals when she sees them. And always wants to touch them.
Avery is one of the loudest babies I know.

March 23, 2011
Today Avery climbed up on Lexi's bed and got some books.
I had no idea that she knew how to do this.
Now even Lexi's room isn't baby proof anymore.
I took a video because Avery was just so cute and seemed so proud of herself.

February 2011
Avery LOVES watching Lexi's Disney Princess Sing-a-Long DVDs. She just sits on the floor as close to the TV as she can and rocks back and forth to the music.
...
Avery loves the bath even more than Lexi did. She is a splasher and a squealer in the tub.

January 28, 2011
Avery turned 9 months old. I can't believe it! We are really enjoying her age. She is getting so fun!
Her latest trick - pulling herself up to stand.
...
We have since lowered the crib and she can no longer chew on the crib.
Note to self: never buy a dark colored crib!
...
9 month stats: 17 lbs 4 Oz (20%), 28 inches tall (60%)
Avery is almost EXACTLY the same size Lexi was at 9 months.

January 15, 2011
We like to call Avery our puppy. She crawls all over the place and especially likes to follow Lexi around. She also loves having things in her mouth.
The other day I found her in her crib she had her blanket in her mouth.
Socks are one of her favorite things to put in her mouth.
She really is always crawling around with something in her mouth. That's our puppy for you.

January 2011
we created a potty chart for Lexi. Each time she went in the potty she got a sticker.
And she just got her 20th sticker, completing the chart.
So we took her to Target to pick out a princess toy. She was so excited!
She picked out a Cinderella toy, complete with carriage, mice, horses and the fairy godmother.
hen we got to the cash register she gave the cashier her potty chart. The cashier seemed a little confused but Lexi didn't notice she just wanted to make sure that she got her toy.
Now that Lexi has a new carriage she will let her sister Avery play with the Little People carriage.

January 13, 2011
We've been potty training Lexi for two weeks now and she's doing great.
We have had very few accidents and she is really good at telling us when she needs to go.
She has been wanting to wear under ware for a long time but I just wasn't ready to potty train.
So we told her after Christmas she could wear under ware.
For the first week, we gave her a Jolly Rancher gummy treat every time she went potty,
then we moved on to Tic Tacs. Now we have a sticker chart.
Eventually we'll stop rewarding her but for now it's good encouragement.
We have been putting Pull Ups on Lexi when she sleeps but I want to start weaning her of that.
We were originally putting Pull Ups on her when we went out but have stop,
expect for church on Sundays (I don't want to deal with an accident at church).
Last night, we were at church for our weekly youth activities and Lexi kept wanting to go potty.
She loves washing her hands and flushing.
She wasn't actually doing anything, she just wanted to "try."
Finally, on her 10th or so "try" I took Avery with me.
I was trying to make sure Avery didn't touch anything while trying to help Lexi balance on the big toilet.
I didn't do such a good job though.
Lexi was moving too much and I wasn't helping enough and she fell in the toilet!
Completely fell in. Like her legs and arms were sticking out but her body was in the toilet.
She just had a very surprised look on her face and I just couldn't stop laughing.
I pulled her out, took off her clothes, dried her off and put a coat on her naked body and we went home. And the good news is that I don't think she is going to be traumatized.

January 6, 2011
Lexi has been potty training for a week and and has been doing AMAZING!
As a reward by parents bought Lexi a Belle dress. Lexi was SOOOO excited.
Lexi already wears Belle dress up shoes and Belle Barbie. Yeah, Belle is her favorite.
But that seems fitting since she was my favorite
and Sean thought she was the prettiest of all the princesses.

December 28, 2010
This week Avery turned 8 months old. I can't believe how big Avery is getting.
She is growing up so fast! But she is also just getting more and more fun and more and more adorable!

Sean and I both agree that we are more content with Avery as a baby than Lexi.

We loved Lexi as a baby but we were always excited for her to learn new things and get older.

Now we know how fast babies grow up and our just enjoying Avery as she is.

And now right she's pretty amazing.

We love you Avery Joy!

Christmas 25, 2010
Avery decided to wake up at 6:30! Way too early. So she was the first one to go find her stocking.
Avery enjoyed playing with the wrapping paper and boxes.
Avery was content just playing with her new toys.
Avery had a great first Christmas. She just spent the whole day playing happily on the floor.
She even got a little power nap on Sean's lap. A special Christmas gift for Sean, for sure.

December 2010
We went to the River of Lights at the Bio Park in downtown Albuquerque.
Avery was amazing the whole time (like usual). She just sat in her stroller and never fussed once!
...
I took the girls to the mall to meet Santa.
And Avery didn't even cry!

November 28, 2010

Avery is now 7 months old. Here are some facts about Avery:

-She now sits up really well unsupported and doesn't fall over nearly as much.

-Avery is now doing really well eating solids. She likes graham crackers, cream of wheat, and fruity rice cereal or oatmeal and bread. She loves the carbs!

-Avery loves being thrown up in the air and tossed around. I think she is going to love rough housing.

-Avery loves being in the bath, just like her sister.

-Avery is still waking up to eat at night but less than before. I am going to try to wean her off of that this month (any advice?).

-Avery still only has three teeth but is teething and it won't be long (hopefully) before more teeth cut through.

-Avery is the happiest baby and we adore her!

November 2010
Last weekend we all us girls got sick. We're feeling better now. Avery has been teething like crazy though. We can now see her fourth tooth (it hasn't cut through though) and we can feel her fifth and sixth tooth under her swollen gums. The poor thing has had a rough week.
...
We have a "Christensen Dance Night" about once a week or so. We crank up the tunes and shake it!
Last time we added fake color changing candles to the mix. And we had a blast!
We even gave Avery a light in a cup. She I think enjoy Christensen Dance Night more than anyone actually. She loves music and dancing and was giggling the whole time.

November 6, 2010
We bought and decorated our Christmas tree. Lexi just couldn't wait (I was excited too).
Lexi was so hyper. She was so excited about the tree.

October 31, 2010
Avery is the team mascot and Lexi is the team cheerleader.
And our Jack-O-Lantern, Avery, got her third tooth today! It's a companion tooth for her first two teeth.
I would be surprised if Avery has a mouth full of teeth soon. Her gums are all swollen.
Today we found a solid food that Avery actually seems to enjoy... potatoes!
I should have known she would, after all she was born in Idaho.

October 29, 2010

Today was Avery's 6 month check-up. She did amazing! She shared lots of smiles with the nurses and doctor and after her shots she cried for 30 seconds, nursed and then took a nap.

Avery is now 15 lbs 6 Oz (30%) and 26 inches long (55%).

So at this age Avery and Lexi are actually almost the exact same size.
...
We went to our ward Halloween party tonight.
very was a doll (like always). She didn't fuss or make a peep the whole time
even though she was running fever.

October 28, 2010
Six months ago today Avery entered the world. Everyday I am so grateful for this little girl in my life. Avery has taught me once again what it means to love another person more than myself.
My eyes are watering up as I think about how much Avery means to me. She is an amazing little girl.
She's so sweet and has the best smile and laugh. I can't imagine our lives without her,
it just seems like she's always been with us.
...
Even though Lexi can be a little rough,
she loves her little sisters so much already and is protective of her.
...

Avery hardly ever cries and is so easy to watch. She basically watches herself.

I can just let her playing on the floor with some toys for up to an hour at a time

and she doesn't make a peep.

...

Avery has been teething and the poor thing isn't sleeping well

(me and Sean either - the joys of sharing a room with your baby).

She has been up so much at night again.
...
Since teething, Avery has also stopped showing interest in solid foods.
...
Avery is to the stage where she wants to be holding ANYTHING and EVERYTHING around her.
And then she wants to put it into her mouth.
...
Since teething, Avery has started to kinda take a binkie.
She mostly just chews on it but it will help calm her down.
...
Avery can sit up unsupported but falls over often wiggling or trying to grab things out of her reach.
...
Avery doesn't crawl but she rolls over and wiggles around on the floor to get what she wants.
...
Avery naps three times a day.
...
Avery is such a happy baby! She is the kind of baby that makes us want to have more kids. The other day Sean and I were talking about twins and Sean said he would love twin Avery's.
I would too. She's just that great!

October 2010
I can put little clippies in Avery's hair!!!
...
Poor Avery has been teething all month, well acutally before than too.
But this is the month we are actually starting to see teeth. Her second tooth just showed up.
Avery has been such a good baby through all of this. She hardly ever cries and is still full of smiles.
She hasn't been sleeping good though. She's not fussy at night, she just not sleeping, seriously.
Last Saturday, I was up with her SIX TIMES! That's more than I ever did when she was a newborn!
I've been giving her Orajel and some Tylenol and that's been helping her to sleep better.
Now I'm just to the point that I want six teeth to poop through so we can be done with teething for awhile.

October 9, 2010

We went to the pumpkin patch I realized that Avery had a little tooth poking through her gums.
I never would have guessed because she didn't cry once all day.
She is such a happy baby and is all smiles even while teething!

September 30, 2010
Avery is constantly growing and changing.
Just within the last week every has been a real chatter box!
She is always making noise and I love it. She is also getting really good at sitting up by herself.
Yesterday, I tried to lay her down in the tub she wouldn't. She kept trying to sit up so finally I let her.
And of course Avery is still the smiliest baby I've ever known!

July 19, 2010
Avery is 11 1/2 weeks old. Today I took her in for another check up.
Little Avery got a shot in each leg and one oral shot. She screamed of course but after I held her she stopped crying pretty quickly. She was cranky for a while though.
She's 23 1/2 inches long (70%) and 11 1/2 lbs (40%)

May 19, 2010
I took Avery in for a routine check up today. She is going great.
She is now 8 lbs 7.5 Oz (41&%) and 20 3/4 inches (54%).
