Adventures in Potty Training - The Eli Addition

I've been putting off potty training Eli since his birthday last fall.
Things just kept happening that made it a bad time to potty train him.
But honestly, I just haven't wanted to do it.
I HATE POTTY TRAINING!
I feel like I lose my freedom.
But I finally decided to set a date for when I'd potty train Eli.
I needed a deadline.
So I told myself that I'd potty train him during spring break since we weren't going anywhere.
THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE!
Why did I think it would be a good idea to potty train him
when all four of my kids would be home all the time!?
...
Day one. When I put him in underwear that morning he had already pooped.
I filled him with liquids and then took him to the bathroom every 20 to 30 minutes.
He figured out how to pee on command but still had a few accidents.
He wouldn't tell me when he needed to pee on his own.
I literally spent all my day watching him like a hawk, except when I went the bathroom myself.
And that's when he pooped in his underwear.

We made him chart. Every time he used the potty, he got to color in a bubble.
After 10 bubbles he'd get a new Disney Car.
He was really excited about that.
He earned those cars within two days.

Day two. I could tell Eli was constipated.
So Sean decided to give him a suppository. We were hoping it would help him go.
But instead he scream that it hurt and clenched for an hour trying not to poop.
He was scared.
I got the tablet and we watched hours of YouTube truck and animal videos that day
waiting for him to do his business.
We told him we had one last car for him when he pooped.
He finally did it.

Day three. He still had several accidents and  now didn't want to use the potty.
I think we traumatized him the day before.
...
Day four. We were in Lehi all day with friends which made it difficult to potty train.
Eli wore a Pull Up all day and treated it like a diaper.
...
Day five. I came down with a stomach bug and was sick for days.
So we pretty much put potty training on hold.
I kept Eli in Pull Ups while I was sick but I didn't have the energy to take him to the bathroom.
...
And now here we are two weeks later and he's not potty trained.
We've stopped.
He has had eczema since he was a baby.
Every few months, he gets it on the back on his legs, arms, back
and sometime bum. It gets so try that he scratches them raw.
He has a rash/ dry skin on his bum right now.
So he doesn't want to sit on the potty plus I need to keep him moisturized
so it's easier if he's not consistently sitting on the potty.
...
We'll try potty training again soon.
Wish us luck next time!
