Grandma's Surprise Visit

On Thursday, May 14th, my mom left a voicemail on my phone saying
that her uncle Jean had passed away.
The next day, she called and told me that she was coming with her dad and stepmom to the funeral.
They were going to be arriving in Utah, Saturday the 16th, the next day.
And my mom wanted to know if she could stay with us.
So with just a days noticed we created a little guest bedroom in our basement
with some furniture that we got from Grammy. It turned out pretty nicely.
(I'll have to post a picture sometime.)
My mom got her late, late Saturday night.
We didn't tell the kids that she was coming.
Sunday morning all the kids were sitting at the table when my mom came upstairs from the basement.
The kids were all so surprised and then excited.
It was hilarious!
My mom spend all of Sunday and Monday with us.
(Her dad and his wife, Bertha, stayed in Bountiful with Bertha's sister.)
Tuesday was the funeral. So my mom was gone all day
but she and my grandparents came back that night for dinner and to hang out
and celebrate Sean's birthday with us.
Then they all headed to Bountiful and then left for Washington the next day, Wednesday morning.

My mom showed the kids her county side and taught them to chew on weeds.
I remember doing that as a kid with my grandpa on his farm.

Grandma bought all the kids new outfits.

Matching outfits for all three girls!

It was so good to see Bertha and my Grandpa again.

Eli is named after my grandpa Calvin Eli.

Four generations of Briggs!

Lexi and Bertha spent a long time together reading.
I was so impressed how entertaining and engaging Lexi was with Bertha
considering she didn't even remember her.

I was so happy that my mom got to come see our new house and be our first guest.
I wish my dad could have come and that they could have stayed longer.
But we made the most of our short time together and made some fun memories!
