For months Lexi has been very vocal and insistent about getting bunnies again.
In school, she had to write a persuasive easy
and she chose to write it about why she should get bunnies again.
She even made a petition and had people sign it who agreed with her.
She got a lot of signatures.
...
Without telling Lexi, Sean and I decided to get bunnies again.
Our plan was to build a bunny pen in the garden and not tell the kids what it really was.
And then we'd surprise them with bunnies.
...
But one day (actually it was Avery's birthday, a Sunday) somehow we started talking about bunnies.
And we ended up looking on KSL to see what was for sale.
We found a set of three brothers that we thought were so cute.
Sean texted their owner and said we wanted them.
While he was texting her, she informed him that she sold one of the brothers.
Sean didn't want to get just two bunnies (in case something happened to one of them).
So we started looking for a second set of brothers.
We found them.
...
On Monday I went shopping for bunny necessities.
I ended up buying a plastic kiddie pool and putting the cage in that in our living room.
And that's where they bunnies lived for a month.
On Tuesday after work, Sean picked up our first set of brothers.
They are Holland Lops with a harlequin coloring.
They girls decided to name them Fred and George.
I wanted George to be the more ginger one and Fred to be the white one.
But the girls decided to name them the other way around.
So George was the white one and Fred was the brownish one.
They were born on March 10th. And they were 7 weeks old when we got them.
They were so gentle and mellow and sweet.
We all instantly fell in love with them.
We all instantly fell in love with them.
The first morning, after we got the bunnies, the kids were so excited to hold them before school.
And every morning after that too.
We got Fred and George on Tuesday the 30th and on Thursday the 2nd (Ty's Birthday),
George died!
We were all shocked and heartbroken! It still makes me so sad.
The kids came home from school and held the bunnies and then we all went outside to play.
Lexi was talking to the Robinsons over the fence about her bunnies.
She asked them if they wanted to come see the bunnies.
They all came inside and found George lying dead!
...
Lexi instantly fell apart.
She was bawling uncontrollably.
It was awful. We were all so sad.
This happened minutes before Sean came home from work with pizza for Ty's birthday dinner.
That night we had a bunny funeral after dinner and before presents and cake.
It was such a strange night.
May 2nd is the day that the battle at Hogwarts was fought.
We know this because the day Lord Voldemort died, was Ty's birthday.
That same day was the day Fred Weasley died.
Had we named the bunnies they way that I wanted, it would have been the day our Fred died too.
But still it's crazy that our Weasley twin bunny died on the same day as a real Weasley twin.
The next day was Friday.
Lexi went to school just for an hour to do her state wide standardized testing.
Then she came home. That afternoon we went and got our second set of bunnies.
We were going to originally get them on Saturday but got them earlier as a way to help cheer Lexi up.
...
Our second set up bunnies are also Holland lops.
They were born on March 23rd.
And when we got them, they were just a day shy of being 6 weeks old.
We named the brown bunny Neville and the white and brown one Cedric.
We decided that we couldn't have a Fred without a George. It was just too sad.
So we decided to called Fred now Arthur. After Arthur Weasley. It's his middle name.
Here is Lexi introducing Arthur to his new brothers.
I am happy to report that all they bunnies get along.
I am so glad that Arthur doesn't have to be alone.
The day we got Neville and Cedric we also had a cousin sleep over at our house.
All the kids were so excited about the bunnies.
Sean and I built their outdoor hutch that day.
Eli LOVES, LOVES, LOVES the bunnies.
He is the first one up in the morning and he always let's them out of their cage.
He is asking to hold them ALL the time.
It's so sweet.
Our baby bunnies like to give kisses. It's so cute.
Lexi and two of her friends did a teacher the teacher presentation on bunnies.
They made a slideshow and I even brought the bunnies to their class.
And they passed out bunny shaped crackers.
Lexi was so excited to share her love of bunnies.
Lexi loves introducing her friends to the bunnies.
These are the most loved bunnies ever!
